NORTH WEST REGION CROSS BORDER GROUP - STRUCTURE

The present structure of the Group is a board comprising 22 elected representatives, the respective Chief Executives / County Manager from each of the five constituent Councils and the Group Development Officer. Specialist Task Teams again comprising officers from each of the Councils and the Development Officer implement the various activities of the Group.

The Group Chairman and Vice-Chairman are elected annually and these positions are rotated between the elected members of the constituent Councils.

Meetings of the Group are held monthly with the exception of the August recess. The Annual General Meeting of the Group is held in June each year at which the Office Bearers, Chairman and Vice-Chairman, are chosen for the incoming year. These posts are rotated between the member Councils.
Members Councils are responsible for nominating representatives to the Group who in turn can attend all meetings. Only members nominated by their Councils can participate in voting for decisions. Clerks and the County Manager or their representatives have rights of attendance at meetings.
In April 2004 the Group adopted a change to its constitution to allow observer status at meetings. This change, introduced to increase awareness of the activities of the Group amongst a wider electorate, sees invitations to meetings and papers of the Group, distributed to all those elected for the region to the N.I. Assembly, the Oireachtas, Westminster and the European Parliament. Observers can fully participate in meetings but have no voting rights.
